Mystery Birthday Party CAL March 2026 | Materials, abbreviations and color keys

This March, we’ll be crocheting together for the 25th time! 🤯🥳
Love surprises, amigurumi, and connecting with like-minded crocheters? Then you won’t want to miss this event!
What is a Mystery Crochet Along?
A Mystery CAL (Crochet Along) is a fun digital event where you discover a brand-new amigurumi pattern, piece by piece, alongside a group of fellow makers over a set period of time.
This year, during March, we’re celebrating my (aka Veronica's) birthday by creating a happy new four-legged animal!
Below, you’ll find all the important details: abbreviations, color keys, and what to prepare before the CAL starts on March 2nd. Welcome to the party!

A Quick Look Back
Last spring (2025), we crocheted Artur the Frog together!
It all started in December 2018 when I hosted my very first CAL with a small group of amigurumi enthusiasts. We made Ralf the Moose, and he stole many hearts that winter. Since then, our crochet alongs have grown into a beloved tradition, with over 5,000 people joining in so far!

Yarn and hook are up to you, but I recommend using eco-friendly yarn or something from your stash. Here's what I’ll be using:
Karma Cotton by Kremke Soul Wool (50g = 105m):
A – Deep Pink (<75g), Karma No. 06
B – White (<75g), Karma No. 01
C – Black (<5g), Karma No. 28
Note! If you want to make the animal in realistic colors, switch out the deep pink yarn for brown, black, or orange-brown.
Other Supplies:

Tips for Success
- Make sure you crochet pretty tight all the way, so you don’t get large holes between the stitches. If you crochet loosely, I suggest you test a smaller hook size (eg, 3.00 mm) so that the stuffing doesn‘t show once you‘ve filled the toy.
- All parts will be worked in spirals (if the pattern doesn’t say otherwise) - so you don‘t have to think about closing the rounds.
- A stitch marker can help you keep track of the beginning of your rows.
