crochet business income report 2020

Crochet business report | January - June 2020

In this post I'll share with you a half year business report for Garnknuten 2020. I asked you on Instagram if this was something you would be interested in and the response was huge. Thank you so much for showing the interest in my crochet business.

Down below I'll share with you how Garnknuten has been growing between January and June. I'm also sharing the income for Garnknuten and how many crochet patterns I've sold.

When I was in the beginning stage of starting my business in 2015 I had this huge need to read other peoples success stories. I saw a lot of successful crochet designers on social media but few that actually shared their story and business journey. That's why I'm sharing this with you.

This is not a success story (yet), but it's a beginning of an exciting business journey that I want to document and share, so that maybe someone just starting out would get that little push that I so desperately was craving when I started out. I hope you'll enjoy this behind the scene post, and if you do, be sure to click the heart button and I'll share with you a new report at the end of the year. Don't hesitate to comment if you have any questions or if there's something else you would like to know about running a crochet design business.

The first graph illustrates the growth of my email list from January to June 2020. I've been working a lot with growing my email list this year. One of my goals this year is to reach 5000 subscribers and I'm super proud of how far I've already come.

I attended Jenna Kutcher's ZERO - 250 List Building Challenge in February and it grew my email list from 150 to over 1000 subscribers! The freebie that grew my list so fast was a PDF of my most viewed pattern the 2D heart. I just converted the free pattern into a printable PDF and offered it for free in a pop-up form and it worked amazing!

In March I opened the registration for my third crochet along which also grew my list a lot. I highly recommend trying to grow your email list with a crochet along if you are a crochet designer.

The second graph illustrates the income from January to June 2020. The income is a mix of:
- Freelance job
- Yarn sales
- Pattern sales

In December I had a freelance job that I got paid for in January and in March I sold yarn kits for the Spring Crochet Along. the other months I've mainly sold patterns.

This is not my salary. Some of it goes to paying taxes and other costs like website, domain, editing programs, transaction fees and so on. Right now I'm not paying myself anything. I'm investing every extra coin back into Garnknuten while I'm still side hustling as a teacher.

Tell me in the comments if you'd like me to share all the costs for running Garnknuten.

The third graph illustrates how the sessions on the website have grown over the last half year. There's always a pike when I host a crochet along or release a new pattern. How many sessions the website gets each month always depends on how much new content I make and how much I market it.

The forth graph illustrates the thing I'm most excited to share with you! My patterns sales over the last half year! I've been selling crochet patterns for about 3 years now and this is the first year I've started to see a clear growth in the sales for my patterns. I've sold 4 times more patterns this year compared to the two previous years (2017-2019). The sales increase probably depends on my growing email list and my new marketing strategy. This graph is giving me so much hope for increasing my sales and growing my business even more! You should see how much I've sold in September! (Stay tuned!)

I hope this will give you some courage or inspiration if you've been thinking about starting a creative business of your own. I'm cheering you on wherever you are! Thank you for reading!
