It's time to wrap up 2021 and go behind the scenes of my crochet business! In this post, I'll share with you the business report for Garnknuten 2021. We'll dive into the numbers, look at how Garnknuten has been growing during the year and highlight what's been working and what's not. Happy reading!

The first graph illustrates the growth of my email list from January to December 2021. My email list is the number one place I market products and keep in touch with my followers. One of my goals this year was to reach 10 000 subscribers, which I almost did! My CALs have been driving a lot of new followers to my email list and also the strawberry PDF pattern, a freebie that I added to the free pattern earlier this year.
Email lists are a huge jungle, believe me, I've been there. I was so lost before I found Flodesk, an email service provider that I've been using for almost two years now. The best things with Flodesk,
- The layout is simple and gorgeous - It's easy to use
- It's affordable (Only 19$ a month with my link!)
- It will not stop you from growing your list
Many other email list providers punishes you for having a big and healthy email list, but not Flodesk. It doesn't matter how many subscribers you'll get! The prize is the same each month.
If you've been thinking about starting an email list to grow your audience and customer base I highly recommend checking out Flodesk. With my link you'll get a 50% discount on your opening price, that's only 19$ a month! Flodesk also has a 30-day trial if you haven't tried it out before. But be quick! Flodesk is pretty new and you never know when they decide to pump up the prices to what they are actually worth.
The second graph illustrates the business income from January to December 2021. Garnknuten earned 6 200€ this year. The income is a mix of:
- Custom orders
- Pattern sales
- Yarn sales
- Course sales
The pike in July is an effect of releasing my very first only course the Amigurumi Design LAB. You can also clearly see when I released tickets for my crochet alongs. My earnings grew by almost 40% this year and I sold for over 500€, 7/12 months. In 2022 my goal for Garnknuten is to bring in 20 000€.
Remember! This is not my salary. Some of it goes to paying taxes and other costs like websites, domains, editing programs, transaction fees, and so on. But 2021 was the first year that I actually paid myself a salary. Exactly 1450€! This is a huge milestone for me!
The fourth graph illustrates the thing I'm most excited to share with you! My patterns sales over the last year! My patterns sales grew ridiculously last year and they continued growing in 2021. This year I sold 458 patterns and 70% of the sales are from the last half of the year. The sale increase is probably a consequence of my growing email list and my marketing strategy.
I've also released a couple of patterns with very little sales this year, like my fish pattern (1 sale), that was a real miss. In 2022 I'm planning to sell over 1 000 patterns by designing more and hosting more crochet alongs.
The best-selling patterns in the shop this year is Frida the llama (over 150 sales), Flora the bat and, Frank the flamingo, all of which have been featured in crochet alongs during the year. I sell most of my patterns in my own webshop and some in my Etsy shop. I also have my patterns on Ravelry but I use it mostly for marketing.
I hope this will give you some courage or inspiration if you've been thinking about starting a creative business of your own. I'm cheering you on wherever you are! Thank you for reading! ❤
